FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
Is FuelPass.lk the official government FuelPass website? +
No. FuelPass.lk is a completely independent, non-governmental fuel saving tips website. The official government FuelPass QR code portal is at fuelpass.gov.lk ↗.
How can I save fuel in Sri Lanka? +
Drive smoothly without sudden acceleration, maintain correct tyre pressure, turn off your engine when idling more than 60 seconds, and keep your engine serviced. These combined habits can save up to 40% on fuel consumption.
What is the best speed for fuel efficiency on Sri Lankan roads? +
The sweet spot for most petrol vehicles is 50–70 km/h. At 60 km/h a typical car burns around 5.5L/100km. At 120 km/h that jumps to over 12L/100km — more than double the cost for the same distance.
Should I use AC or open windows to save fuel in Sri Lanka? +
Below 50 km/h (city driving), open your windows — the AC compressor adds unnecessary fuel load. Above 80 km/h (highway), close windows and use AC, as open windows create aerodynamic drag that burns more fuel than AC would.
How much does tyre pressure affect fuel economy in Sri Lanka? +
Under-inflated tyres reduce fuel economy by 3–10%. With petrol at Rs.317/L, that is hundreds of rupees wasted every week. Check your tyre pressure at any petrol station every two weeks — it costs nothing and takes 2 minutes.
